Donald W. Haucke

Donald W. Haucke, 88, of Nokomis, Florida died April 18, 2011. Mr. Haucke was born October 4, 1922 in Crooksville, Ohio to George Washington and Minnie Frances (Kennison) Haucke. He retired form the U. S. Postal service in 1990. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He moved to Nokomis in 1954 from Montgomery, Ohio. Mr. Haucke started the Boy Scouts in Nokomis in 1962 at the Nokomis Methodist Church, a member of the Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church since 1954, a member of the Methodist Menís Club and sang in the choir and sang with the Barber Shop Quartet. He was active in the community with youth sports. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the Army Air Force as a control tower operator were he was responsible for saving 26 lives.
He is survived by a sister, Bonnie Eichelberger of North Port, four children, Sharon Wright, Donna Shaddix and David Haucke all of Nokomis, and Michael Haucke of Venice; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mr. Haucke was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Haucke.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 26, 2011 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home Venice Chapel.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 27, 2011 at 10:30 am at Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church. Private burial will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Venice-Nokomis United Methodist Church, c/o Daycare Fund, 208 Palms Avenue, Nokomis, FL 34275.
