Englewood, & Punta Gorda FL Area Margaret Lee Smelser, 83 of Punta Gorda, FL passed away peacefully Tuesday December 27, 2011. She was born October 6, 1928 to Lemley and Ruth Himelick. For many years, Margaret enjoyed roller skating, square dancing, card playing and being near the water, which brought her to Florida in 1982 from Indiana. She had been President of the PTA for many years; President of the Woman’s Club, a den mother, involved in Demolay, volunteered as a substitute teacher, was a camp counselor and loved to entertain. Margaret was a phone operator, a top saleswoman for Avon and went on to be a Real Estate Broker.
She is survived by her children, Rosilyn Thompson of Punta Gorda, FL and Robert (Lori) Smelser of Indianapolis, IN; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; her brother, Rex (Susie) Carter of Utah and sister Rachel (Mike) Wilson of New Castle, IN. She was pre deceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Warren Smelser on February 26, 2007.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm till 3:00 pm, Monday January 2, 2012 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm Monday at the funeral home with the Rev Ralph Burton officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
