Online Obituaries for the Port Charlotte, Venice, Englewood, & Punta Gorda FL Area Clark Thaddeus “Thad” Surgeon, 85 of Punta Gorda, FL passed from this life into glory on Wednesday morning, January 18, 2012. He was born April 18, 1926 in Alderson, WV to Harry Christopher and Maggie Belle (Phillips) Surgeon. He served in WWII in the US Army as a driver and later in the Air Corp as a mechanic. Returning to West Virginia, he married Deloris Tuck in 1949 and worked the coal mines. They relocated to Michigan where he worked as a mechanic and later owned three auto parts & repair shops. They moved to Florida in 1964. He was the Pit Boss at the old Charlotte Speedway and was employed in the parts dept at Palm Chevrolet for many years before retiring. He was a patriot, a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was an Elder at the Independent Pentecostal Church. He loved racing, football, knew how to enjoy life and how to be a good friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Deloris M (Tuck) Surgeon; a daughter, Diania (Henry Estus) Croy; son, David Kent (Ruth) Surgeon; five grandchildren, Peggy (Don) Brunk; Dawn R. (Mark) Croy, Henry II (Tracy) Croy, David II (Louise) Surgeon and Eric (Kristin) Surgeon; eight great grandchildren, Jennifer & Christopher Brunk; Mason Scott Croy; Chelsea, Henry III and Kayla Croy; Brianna and Zachary Surgeon; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am till 11:00 am, Monday January 23, 2012 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens with graveside military honors.
