Dorothy B. Lakan had her first sunrise on June 16, 1922 in Little Rock, Arkansas and her final sunset on Wednesday December 7, 2011 in Punta Gorda, FL. She was 89. Dorothy was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Her sense of humor was enjoyed by so many, but her faith was a testament of her LOVE for God. In Dorothy’s early years, she served in the United States Navy in Washington, DC. During this time she met her husband to be, Joseph Lakan. They shared 41 years of marriage and had two children, Diane and Dick. Dorothy was a member at the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa, IL for 65 years. She enjoyed volunteer work and volunteered at the Easter Seal Center and was a member of the American Legion before moving to Florida in 2000.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Diane Gudmundsen of Punta Gorda; grandchildren, Diane and Steve Hunt of Ft Myers, FL, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Betty Brown of Norman, OK and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death of her husband in 1987, her son in 1972 and her parents, James and Bernice Brown.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Cleveland United Methodist Church, 28038 Cleveland Ave, Punta Gorda, FL on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 1:30 pm with the Reverend Dr. Thomas Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cleveland United Methodist Church or to Tidewell Hospice, 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

Funeral Information

A Memorial Service will be held at the Cleveland United Methodist Church, 28038 Cleveland Ave, Punta Gorda, FL on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 1:30 pm with the Reverend Dr. Thomas Moore officiating.

Donations Information

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cleveland United Methodist Church or to Tidewell Hospice, 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
