was born July 17, 1923 in Northfield, lived and raised his family in Excelsior, and moved to Punta Gorda in 1995. Leo was a W.W.II Marine Corps Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater He was an active member of the Marine Corps League,the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the Masons. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with family. He is survived by his second wife Lorraine, children Margaret(Ken)Oberg of Barrington, IL,Patricia (Apolo) Gonzalez of Carrollton, TX, Michael (Tammy) of Bradford, NH and James (Linda) Austin AR; grandchildren Jason (Sara) and Christine Oberg. David (Melissa) and Daniel Gonzalez, Zachary and Nicholas Malecha and Jarrid Erwin; two greatgrandchildren Kevin Gonzalez and Sebastian Oberg; a brother Alois, AZ. and a sister Lillian Fanelli NV. He was preceded in death by his frrst wife Adeline M. (Tikalsky) Malecha and a sister Rita Hosford,RI A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 1PM at the Windmill Village in Punta Gorda. An additional memorial will be held Sunday January 20,2013 at the American Legion in Lonsdale from 1 to 4 PM. Burial including full military honors will be held at 9AM Monday, January 21, 2013 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
