Ruth L. Spies, 65, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away January 7, 2012, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. She was born November 22, 1946 in Northbrook, IL to Alan and Lydia Cole. She lived in Schaumburg, IL and worked as an Analyst for the Zurich American Insurance till her retirement in 2005. She enjoyed retirement life, and her love of animals, travel and people, made it easy for her to take up photography, jewelry making and selling her finished products at art fairs and galleries in the area. Soon she was hired by the Charlotte Sun newspaper to write a weekly column about the arts and entertainment in Punta Gorda. Ruth loved every aspect of her life and felt wholeheartedly that these really were “the best years of her life”.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Jack C. Spies, her daughter and son-in-law, Tara J. and Errett B. Manwaring, grandchildren Riley B. and Morgan J. Manwaring, her brother Richard Cole, her sister, Charlotte Lemke and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral Information
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm till 2:00 pm Sunday January 22, 2012 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev Dana Narring officiating.
