Leila P. Beecher born October 6, 1919 of Port Charlotte, Florida died on Sunday, June 10, 2012.
Leila grew up on a farm in Grant County, WI the second daughter of Viggo and Velma (Ashby) Laugesen, sister of Wilma Beecher, June Chandler and Janis Turner.
Leila was united in marriage to Earl Beecher in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 26, 1946 and was the mother of Denis, and baby Gloria, who preceded her in death, and Jean adopted in 1952. They shared their home with many friends and family over the years.
For a few years they lived in Milwaukee, then Potosi, Wisconsin. In 1953 they moved to Madison, Wisconsin until they retired in 1984 to live in Florida. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2006. They shared their home with many family and friends over the years.
Leila retired from 23 years of nursing at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in 1984. She belonged to Susanna Circle at the Methodist Church in Port Charlotte, was a life-member of the Military Order of Purple Heart Auxiliary, and D.A.V. She loved painting in oil, crocheting, quilting and many other crafts.
Leila is survived by her son, Denis, (Janis), daughter Jean (Ed) Doench, five grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl, daughter Gloria, parents, Viggo and Velma Laugesen, sisters Wilma Beecher, Janis Turner and June Chandler.
A celebration of her life will be held at Kays Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home 2405 Harbor Blvd. Port Charlotte, Florida on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster, Wisconsin.
