William K. Ahlers, II

William Kopp Ahlers, II, 84, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012. William was born on August 27, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to William and Aurelia (Schleifer) Ahlers. William served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Panama during World War II. In 1951, he married Barbara Pratt. In 1952 he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. William retired in 1983 after working 30 years for Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation. He enjoyed golf and doing crossword puzzles.
William is survived by his wife of 60 years Barbara (Pratt) Ahlers, sons, William Ahlers III and Susan Hamada of St. Charles, IL, Stephen Ahlers and Katherine Nitz of Olney, Maryland and his five grandchildren, Barbara, Kristoph, Peter, Kristina and Emily. William is preceded in death by his daughter Kimberley Bernstein of Temecula, CA.
A Memorial Service and reception will be held on Friday, January 20th at 11:00 am at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1532 Forrest Nelson Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in William’s name.
