Donald Joseph Smith, 62, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away May 27, 2012 from cancer complications. He was born on September 10, 1949 in Bad Axe, Michigan, the son of the late Leo and Luella Smith. Don graduated from Saint Augustine’s School in Richmond. He had an incredible sense of humor and a contagious laugh. Don was passionate about baseball, college football, and fishing. He was active in the community, including serving as the President of the Charlotte Park Civic Association.
Don was the loving husband to Agnes Ann Wyatt Smith for over 40 years, and an amazing father to his children D.J. (Kiska), Greg (Amy), Matt, and Melissa, and his grandchildren Carson, Hayden, Allison, Kian, and Hadley. He is survived by his brothers, Malcolm (Phyllis) and John; and sisters, Suzanne Bewersdorff (William) and Mary Lou Hurttgam (Richard). Don is cherished by his father-in-law, Clifford Wyatt (Francis) Clifford (Maureen), Barbara Petrowski (Dale), Donna Wyatt, Helen Wyatt, and Marsha Green (Dallas) and many nephews and nieces. He is pre-deceased by his siblings, Jim (Sally), Paul, and Karen Lynch (Warren).
The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm till 4:30 pm, Friday June 1, 2012 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL. The Funeral Service will follow on Friday at 4:30 pm at the funeral home with Deacon Tom Caliguire officiating. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am, June 23, 2012 at St Augustine's Catholic Church in Richmond, Michigan. Date to be announced. Don’s final resting place will be at a family cemetery near Pikeville, TN.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm till 4:30 pm, Friday June 1, 2012 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL. The Funeral Service will follow on Friday at 4:30 pm at the funeral home with Deacon Tom Caliguire officiating.
